Sand Dune Sprints – Humility and Inspiration

I used to think I was in really good shape, then I had my first sand dune workout of 2010! Here's how it went down:

The Workout Breakdown:

Warmup:
* Walking/jogging from the car to the small sand dune while performing POSE method running drills (~5–6 minutes).
* Hit a quick calisthenics warmup block: Prisoner Squats, lunges, lateral lunges, under/over hurdles, high knees, butt kicks, etc.

Small Dunes Part 1:
* 2x all-out sprints up and down (~0:30 each) with 1 minute of rest in between.

After that:
* Jog over to the big sand dunes (~3–4 minutes) with 1 minute of rest / mental preparation.

Big Dunes Phase:
* 3x all-out sprints all the way up (~0:20 each).
* Utter various expletives in between bouts of violent, lung-burning panting (~0:15–0:30 each).
* Run fast downhill and continue straight into a few strides on the flat ground.
* Rest 1 minute +/-.

Small Dunes Part 2:
* Walk back to the small sand dunes.
* 1x final all-out sprint straight up the slope with an easy walk down.

*
Cool Down: Walk back to the car, stretch out thoroughly, change out of gear, and done.

Post-Workout Notes:
Experienced that intense “burnt lung” feeling for a while after wrapping up this session. It felt great to get out on the sand, but it was incredibly humbling to realize how much work I truly have ahead of me.

Time to get my ass in gear.
